by Claire Marie Lim
my grandmother sings
songs that seep into the
spaces of my sad mind
filling the cracks slowly
but they do it so surely
sweet are the sounds that speak to my soul
that hear the harmonies buried in my heart
my grandmother cries
crooning into the night
for lost lives and loves
thoughts of a husband
but one memory away
sweet are the sounds that speak to my soul
that hear the harmonies buried in my heart
my grandmother laughs
with the spirit of youth
a clear and crisp clarity
lingering on in my ears
but never becoming old
sweet are the sounds that speak to my soul
that hear the harmonies buried in my heart
my grandmother smiles
when i call her Halmoni
i am not hers in reality
neither is she truly mine
but the harmony is ours.
