Submission Guidelines

Berklee’s online global arts magazine publishes writing, photography, video, theater, dance, and music by students, faculty, staff, and alumni from across the U.S. and our international communities. Students should check our homepage for occasional Contests & Prizes, typically 1st, 2nd, 3rd place gift cards of $100/75/50.

We also feature distinguished guest artists, some of whom have received the Guggenheim and other major awards.

We read submissions from September through April.

Currently, we are accepting unsolicited guest artist manuscripts only in Creative Nonfiction:

We seek well-crafted Creative Nonfiction that is vital, engaging, and pushes against boundaries. CNF must be based in fact, max 3k words. Reading period extended to September 30th.

For other genres, potential guest artists should query FUSION before submitting work.

To see work by some of our guest artists:

General Guidelines:

Include a cover letter with relevant details (Berklee connection if any, title(s), your genre, contact information, and previous experience, e.g., publications, recordings, performances, or exhibitions.

[Note to Berklee Students: we only consider work accompanied by a cover letter, even if you were asked to submit by a professor.]

Submit written work as MS Word attachments. At top of attached manuscript, provide contact information, full title, genre, page numbers in upper right, standard margins, and word count.

Always include a bio (75 words max) at the bottom of your Word manuscript.

Self-contained chapters of longer works will be considered.

email all submissions to:
FUSION Magazine:

Subject heading of email should read: Your Genre: FICTION, CNF, POETRY, DRAMA, FILM, ART, PHOTOGRAPHY, MULTIMEDIA, or MUSIC. Your Last NAME, First NAME, TITLE of piece, and DATE.

We accept simultaneous submissions. We only ask that you contact us if your piece has been published elsewhere so we might free up room for other artists.

Work not submitted according to guidelines will not be considered.

Please note that given the ratio of the volume of submissions to the size of our staff, we regret sincerely that we are only able to reply if we will publish your work.

Each submission should not exceed 5,000 words; double-spaced, 12-point Verdana font.

Creative Nonfiction

Open to all; see above. Each submission should not exceed 3,000 words; double-spaced, 12-point Verdana font.

Spaced 1.5 with 12-point Verdana font, only one poem per page. Send no more than six (6) poems in ONE MS Word email attachment.

NB: For poems that have complex line breaks, submit your poems as separate pdf files, which would be publication-ready if accepted. In this case, only the title and your name should appear on the pdf ms.

Drama & Film

We welcome plays and screenplays (from shorts/one-acts to full-length) as pdf files. We assume dramatists will compose using Final Draft (first choice), Celtx, or other scriptwriting software in order to assure professional, standardized formatting.

Art, Photography, and Multimedia

Photographs must be at least 800 x 800 pixels. We will consider photographs of visual art, assuming they convey the essence of the work and present well online.

Edited music videos that go beyond simply documenting a live performance. We will consider multimedia works, including audio files if accompanied by photos/images or text, i.e., material that will appeal to our broad online audience. Five minutes maximum.
