Meekins Tribute to Bishop: “The Marvelous Stove”

Wayne Meekins

“The Marvelous Stove” is a tune written in honor of the American poet Elizabeth Bishop, after her poem “Sestina.” The stove can be seen as the “all seeing eye” of the house, wise and knowing; the very thing at the heart of the house and the poem. Meekins has carried Bishop’s idea of the stove into the jazz idiom. A composer and trombonist, Meekins is a December 2010 graduate of Berklee with a degree in Professional Music.
